Interested in building your entrepreneurial skills to launch your startup?

YSpace, York University’s innovation hub, is partnering with the Markham Small Business Centre (MSBC) to host an 11-week educational program called Founders Fundamentals.

Whether you are a professional services company, brick and mortar or technology startup, the program aims to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to succeed. Spanning across topics such as finance 101, to how to write a business plan, to legal basics and more, this program provides a wide range of learning. In addition, the program connects you with local resources for potential next steps as you progress in your entrepreneurial ventures.

Individuals who attend at least 9 out of the 11 workshops will receive an Innovation York Certificate of Completion, illustrating your dedication to learning about the essentials of launching a successful business.

About the Workshop

For all entrepreneurs building a founding team is the most critical step in starting a venture. A start-up can have the perfect ingredients from idea to product to market to be successful, but nothing can derail success faster than problems in a team.  In this workshop, our speaker will share her journey with stories and lessons learnt in building a founding team and the importance of understanding human dynamics and company culture.

In this workshop we will cover:

  1. What does a founding team look like?
  2. Where do you go and hire the team?
  3. For non-technical founders how to address the technology gap?
  4. How do founding teams evolve and what can go wrong?
  5. How do you nurture the team with a winning culture for success?
  6. When to let go and move on?

About the Presenter

Anu Bidani

Founder and CEO of STEM Minds

Anu Bidani is the founder and CEO of STEM Minds, a BCorp certified social enterprise that empowers youth to develop a love of learning through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) education. She founded STEM Minds in 2016 and recently launched a charity Inno-Hive, an Innovative Learning Community to help youth upskill / reskill for the jobs of today and tomorrow. With a passion for technology and as a former executive at Scotiabank for 20 years, becoming their Head of eStrategy and Solutions, Anu recognized she could create unique STEM education programs for kids ages 4-18 to unlock their full potential while supporting youth to continue their fearless learning journey.

Anu is an award-winning entrepreneur who is passionate about empowering the next generation of global leaders and innovators through STEM education. She is also a proud SheEO activator who supports other women entrepreneurs in their career journey. Anu has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and an MBA from Dalhousie University and has completed the High Potential Leadership program from Harvard Business School.
