Presenter Bio:

Karen Bozynski started her career in electronics manufacturing 25 years ago, with Celestica. From R&D of wire-bond metallurgy and solder joint optimization, she became a lean manufacturing expert across factories worldwide, implementing and leading best practices to make Canadian factories more cost-efficient than lower-cost geographies. This enables companies to manufacture in Canada and come to market confidently with sound quality and pricing. After Celestica, Karen led an IoT startup at MaRS, which has integrated its technology into products you can buy at The Source and Indigo. Karen joined Microart earlier this year, and enjoys working with fellow entrepreneurs to help them bring their products to market fast and with confidence.

Founders Fundamental is a regional program designed to help you kick start your entrepreneurial career. Whether you are a professional services company, brick and mortar or technology startup, the program aims to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to succeed. Spanning across topics such as Value Proposition Design, Prototyping 101 and How to Grow a Team, this program provides a wide range of learning. In addition, the program connects you with local resources within your municipality such as your local Small Business Centres and more. Individuals that complete all 13-weeks of learning will receive an Innovation York Certificate of Completion from YSpace.

There's a lot that goes into being an entrepreneur and working on your craft. There are late nights, early mornings and many sacrifices that are made. It all takes a toll. There are times where we question if we're on the right path or if this is actually something creative enough to attract clients. Sometimes we feel "is this even worth it? "

Come join us on July 26 for a panel discussion on how to balance creative vision with business strategy. You will gain a new perspective of how to treat yourself like a business without compromising your creativity. We will go through the importance of branding/marketing yourself and how to turn a creative idea into a captivating and engaging execution.

With insights drawn from the music industry, startup ecosystems and Fortune 500 presentations, Ben provides invaluable lessons on the art of visual and verbal communication.

Currently, Ben operates Pitchverk, a communications agency for the tech sector. Pitchverk helps founders, accelerators and venture capital funds communicate their message, close deals and raise capital. About the Presentation

In this Lunch & Learn workshop, we will discuss the Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) incentive program, which is the biggest source of Canadian government funding for both technology companies and manufacturers in a variety of industries.

Canada’s Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program provides small and medium-sized CCPCs (Canadian controlled public corporations) with an annual fully refundable 35% tax credit on up to $3 million of qualifying expenditures related to scientific research and experimental development in a variety of industries.

In all, the program pays out more than $3 billion in tax credit incentives to over 20,000 claimants annually.

Speaker Dmitry Brusilovsky is a founder of SRED Unlimited, a boutique consulting company specializing in securing SR&ED tax credits and refunds.

Dmitry has a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science, and prior to the founding of SRED Unlimited —and to his work in the field of SR&ED in general—gained many years of software engineering experience.
